Homebuying

I am starting to get the itch to have something to call our own. I'm addicted to watching all those shows on HGTV about first-time homebuyers. It all seems stressful but equally exciting at the same time.

I'm pretty determined to save as much as we can to have a 20% down payment on a home. This morning though did make me realize the benefit of renting before you buy. Two years ago I wouldn't have known what I wanted in a place. Anything was better than the dump of an apartment I rented back in college. Now I know little things that make such a huge difference in a home. Windows for one! I need a kitchen with windows. I despise our dungeon kitchen now. Closets for another. Walk-ins are nice, but just a big closet is fine too.

These are things I didn't even notice when finding an apartment to rent. But when we move on these are things I will definitely be looking for and comparing.
